To my dearest 1E5,
My sincere apologies to all of you for not letting you know earlier that I’ll be leaving the school at the end of the school term. Somehow I felt that I should do it after the exams. For those who kept asking why I had to go, I thought I should let you know. Basically, my dad suffered a stroke about 6 weeks ago, and I have to go to Malaysia where I will assist him in operating the family business. I could have left earlier, but I thought I would like to take all of you through the exams.
I’m sorry that I have to leave all of you, and you’ll have to adjust to a new teacher next semester. I wished I had more time with all of you because I’m always looking forward to teach in E5, and yet I have so little time with the class. I have to admit that I enjoy teaching E5 because you’re all a fun-loving, responsive and colourful bunch of students. It’s such a blessing to be your co-form teacher, as well as your English and History teacher.
I can never forget the first week of school. How I struggled with all of your names. Chloe especially, who said “Oh my god!” when she heard me calling out her name wrongly. She could have almost fainted. Josica was wearing her blue primary school uniform. I remember her seated in front, and she was so quiet (unlike her talkative self now :OP). Somehow her blue primary school uniform stood out from the sea of red. Poor Amanda was trying to convince me not to nominate her as my English rep. Well, she is still my English rep and she draws a pretty good picture of me with long curly hair. She calls it the “Cup-noodled” hair. Thank you for the cartoon. I like that very much and it looks really cool. I still don’t understand Bing Xuan’s fascination with hot dogs, and Jonathan’s obsession with the power rangers. Michelle and Jessica would always be chatting when I’m not looking. Both of them will try to win my sympathy by looking at me with their big, innocent eyes. It dosen’t work every time k? Joshua would always look to his right... Who are you talking to Joshua??? *wink wink* Poor Junhao is left on his own without Joshua’s attention, and Junhao turns to his PSP or Newspaper. Benedict and Amirul will always look at me in the eye and smile when I mark their attendance in the morning. They find it really fun, and it’s great to see them smile. Okay, it’s more of a naughty grin... TSK TSK TSK.. Are you guys up to no good again??? Song Yuan would want to skip the cross country and most other sporting activities. Please encourage him when I’m not around! Yu Xiang, Tze Wei, Yong Zhan and Zulhazmi are quieter during class, though Yong Zhan did joked about beating me up for the difficult history questions, and I did catch Zulhazmi doing the shuffle on a few occasions. Tze Wei is very shy, quiet and soft spoken, while Yu Xiang, who is my class chair, has a very cool hairstyle. *hint hint* Time to trim your fringe...
Most of the girls in the class are very quiet. I hardly have the chance to speak to Glenda, Grace, Valerie, Melanie, Nasuha, Jocelyn, Dasrene, Amani and Liyana. Perhaps they are shy or afraid of me... Or perhaps my lessons are really boring and that they can’t wait for my lesson to be over :] Really ah? Are my lessons really that boring? Sometimes they don’t look at me when I’m talking to them... Am I that ugly? :O) I remember Evelyn having colourful highlighters, and most of her texts or scripts are filled in green, orange, pink and purple. Evelyn likes to highlight. Hidayah has a hidden twin sister in her... and the name of her twin sister is Sathi! Adrian enjoys sharing sweets and cakes from the Philippines, and all of us really appreciate that. Thank you, Adrian. Jin Yong is always quiet and cool. Yes, Jin Yong is quite a cool guy. Jin Sha is always thinking about soccer, and not about the Feudal System. I didn’t know Kok Hui likes to breakdance until he started hopping around in public wearing his NCC boots and school house t-shirt. We had to stop him before he continued his breakdance routine. Gar Wei is always planning for class outings, and I think that he’s doing a very good job. It’s not easy to coordinate everything, so please give him your support. We should play basketball during the holidays Gar Wei. We shall see. :O) I almost forgot, Jacelyn likes to ROAR. She will end almost every sentence with “ROAR!” I don’t get it, but it’s funny sometimes. The things that teenagers say these days. Age gap. It must be the age gap :] Fakhrul and Alphonsus are the more hardworking and attentive boys in the class. Please learn from the both of them. Fakhrul can shuffle pretty well, and Alphonsus is doing well in history. Boys... please ask them for tips. :O) Clarice is very hard working, and that explains why she top the class. Well done Clarice. Maybe you want to share some study techniques with the rest of your classmates. Class, please care and share! Mavis usually has a lot of questions, and I can never finish answering them. Sometimes I pretend I didn’t hear them... Kekeke... Yes, most of the questions are not related to English or History. Mavis... Mavis... :OP I just realised that Shye Kit has got 2 English names. Gilbert and Kendrick. Shye Kit, which one is it? Make up your mind k? Don’t confuse your teachers and classmates... It’s can’t be Gilbert Kendrick Ma Shye Kit right? Asdira wants to be a doctor in the future, which is a very tough and challenging job. I wish you success in following your dreams, and you can do it if you believe in yourself and work hard.
I saw the discussion that some of you had about seeing me off to the airport. Gosh, aren’t my students so sweet and kind? Thank you all so much for the thought. I am truly touched. You don’t have to see me off at the airport, because I’ll be taking a coach to Malaysia. Aiyah... so anti-climax. Even if I were to take a plane, I can’t bear to have some of you there. I don’t think I can handle the emotions. I really appreciate all your thoughts, and the time that we all had together are priceless. I am not staying in Malaysia forever, and I am sure that we will have lots of activities and outings together in the future. Please let me know in advance. I don’t have to be a teacher in your school to facilitate your learning. There are so many lessons in life which you have yet to learn, and I would be most willing to listen or help should any of you encounter challenges at any point in time. I am just an email away. :O)
Please enjoy your holidays, and reflect on some of the problems you faced in school. Please don’t be discouraged by your grades if you feel that you have done your best. Please work on your weaknesses, and don’t give up just because you didn’t do it well the first time. Nothing is easy, and you will only improve if you reflect and make an effort to work towards your goal. I’m already looking forward to the outings. Thank you all for being the 1E5 that I know, love and cherish. Images of your laughter, joy and mischief will always be with me.
